Our History

Dhow Palace Hotel stands as one of Zanzibar's most treasured historic properties, a graceful building that has graced the heart of Stone Town since 1559. Originally the residence of a wealthy Arab merchant, this centuries-old structure has borne witness to the full sweep of Zanzibar's remarkable history: the spice trade, the sultanate era, and the island's evolution into a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lovingly restored and reimagined as a boutique hotel, Dhow Palace today offers 30 elegantly appointed rooms where traditional Swahili craftsmanship meets modern comfort. Walking through our corridors is like walking through a living museum, antique furniture, hand carved doors, and ornaments reflecting the Arab, Indian, European and African cultures that have shaped this magical island.
